What Are Sunamps?
The Sunamp Thermino are world-leading thermal storage heat batteries that are modern-day, energy-saving – and space-saving – thermal stores made with a high-performance material to deliver fast-flowing hot water. They are an eco-friendly alternative to indirectly heated vented and unvented hot water cylinders. Up to four times smaller than the equivalent hot water cylinder, the super-compact design means Therminos look great in any home and free up valuable storage space. They are also easy to install and kinder to the environment. What is there not to love about that?
Benefits of Having a Sunamp:
- The comfort and convenience of fast-flowing hot water on tap that doesn’t cost the earth
- Small enough to free up valuable storage space in the home
- Reduced carbon emissions, reducing/eliminating gas and controlling energy bills
- No annual mandatory maintenance means additional cost savings
- Easier, quicker and cheaper to install than traditional hot water cylinders
- Reliable, safe, non-toxic and non-flammable
- Works with a wide choice of energy sources, including heat pumps and solar PV
Sunamp – How They Work (in simple terms…)
The Thermino range uses high-performance phase change material (Plentigrade P58) to deliver hot water on demand. It absorbs and releases thermal energy during a melting and freezing process in a similar way to the gel in a pocket hand warmer. PCMs (phase change materials) absorb, store and release large amounts of heat when changing state between solid and liquid. Heat is absorbed on melting and released on freezing. A high-powered heat exchanger or heating element rapidly charges the Thermino, and heat is just as quickly extracted to provide fresh, mains pressure hot water at a constant temperature only when it’s needed. Our unique formula stores up to four times more energy than water, which means SumAmps are up to four times smaller than the hot water cylinders they replace. The phrase, good things come in small packages, couldn’t be more accurate.
Thermino heat batteries are non-toxic, non-hazardous, and non-flammable, and every component can be fully reused or recycled at end-of-life. It’s all about doing what we can for our planet.
