Project details:
Friars a grade 2 listed building had been unoccupied for several years and was registered ‘at risk’. Working with Mole Architects, our customer obtained planning permission to transform Friars into a home for the 21st century. The scheme linked this 17th Century cottage to a striking new build wing. Eco Installer took on the challenge of designing a solution that was suitable for both a restoration and new build installation in one.
With no mains-gas in the village, our customer was keen to have a renewable heating system installed along with under-floor heating where ever possible. They wanted Eco Installer to design and install all the Mechinal and Electrical works. This complete solution included the installation of high end bathroom and specialist lighting fittings.
Shane and Roly put together a proposal for a 16kW Nibe Mono-Bloc Air Source Heat Pump, under-floor heating, 2 ensuites, one family bathroom and plumbing works in the kitchen. With a plan in place, our engineers Tom and Jack carried out the work on site. Our installers had to work around the build schedule which took just over 12 months. Our flexible approach ensured that we were able to help keep the build going, working alongside main contractors Valliant.
The NIBE air source heat pump was located unobtrusively in the garden to the side of the house and a plant room was built under the stairs to house the buffer tank, hot water cylinder, controls and under-floor heating manifolds. We have a specialist team who insulate all pipes completely, the end result is a plant room to be proud of.
Other work included installing high spec showers, enclosures and wall hung WC’s into all ensuites and the master bathroom. A large stone freestanding bath completed the luxurious look in the master bathroom complemented with an elegant oak wash stand. Anthracite column radiators were installed on the first floor in the cottage which enhanced the character of these spaces.
In August 2018 our customers moved in and began enjoying their beautiful home and in the knowledge that they have a future-proof heating system. Instead of burning fossil fuels they are showcasing their eco-credentials whilst enjoying the Government Incentive, the ‘Renewable Heat Incentive’.
We have recently returned to complete our works, installing a Panasonic air-to-air system in the Studio Annex which provides low energy heating and cooling all-year-round.
Testimonial:
“We were immediately impressed by Shane and Roland’s knowledge and experience in the relatively new area of air source heat pumps. Through the installation and commissioning of the systems the whole team shared the desire to deliver excellence. The quality of the workmanship and attention to detail was remarkable with each person taking responsibility for getting their works right. Things went wrong as they do but Shane and the team were always responsive and got the issues fixed without drama”.
