Geoff was in the process of buying an off-grid property which had no electricity when he gave us a call to see if we could recommend suitable options for heating, hot water and electricity.

Geoff was invited in to our Sutton showroom to discuss his ideas with Roly and Shane and to go through the property plans. Geoff had a good understanding of how solar panels worked and wondered if his property would be suitable for a solar photovoltaic (PV) installation. After looking at the plans Roly worked out that 24 panels could comfortably fit on the south-west facing roof producing 6kW’s of energy. Alongside the solar installation, Roly suggested installing a solar battery storage system to store any unused energy produced from the solar panels. The stored energy can then be used in the evening and throughout the night when no energy is being produced. As the property is off grid, Roly recommend the installation of a generator as a back-up to provide electricity should the batteries run out or if there is not significant solar generation.

For hot water, Shane suggested installing a Vaillant ecoTEC Plus system boiler which could run from LPG cylinders situated discreetly in the garden. The Vaillant ecoTEC Plus system boilers are neat and compact boilers, providing simple installation and unrivaled flexibility. With its small dimensions the boiler has great flexibility with place of installation proving to be an ideal solution for the family.

Our electrical engineers Mike and Karl installed the solar panels over 5 days and fitted the 25 2v batteries and solar inverter neatly in the customer’s utility room. Whilst the solar installation took place, our plumbing engineer Tom installed the Vaillant boiler also in the utility room. Once completed, Tom installed the gas cooker and connected it to the LPG supply.

Geoff is delighted with his new heating and solar system. The solar panels are providing the majority of energy needed and the generator automatically turns on when needed, proving to be an easy and user friendly system.
