When exhibiting at the Haddenham Steam Rally, we met Les who was interested in a solar installation on his narrow boat at Earith Marina and also one for his Son’s house in Somersham, Huntingdon.
Upon visiting Graham’s (the son’s) home, Graham explained that the house had subsided resulting in an un-level roof. Before the property was underpinned Graham took full advantage of the situation and had a ground source heat pump installed to contribute towards the families heating and hot water demands.
Graham intended to have a Velux window installed in the roof so asked us to leave a section of the roof clear. Roly carried out a site survey and felt with careful planning the solar installation could take place.
Roly calculated 16 panels could fit comfortably on the roof producing 3,613kWh of energy per annum. Roly’s design showed 10 panels on the left side of the roof and 6 on the right to leave space for the new Velux window to be installed. We recommended ‘Perlight Delta Black Mono Panels’ which look great, come with a 10 year manufacturer’s warranty and a 25 year performance guarantee for the panels.
Les was pleased with the quote and design received. Mike, Will and Dayne completed the installation in just over two days. Mike, our in house electrician will be going back shortly to install a Solar iBoost which diverts excess energy from the PV array into domestic hot water for further savings.
We estimate Graham and his family will be approximately £800 per annum better off with income generated from the Feed-in Tariff, electricity exported to the grid and annual electricity savings.
