Project details:
We were contacted by a member of the Masonic Hall in Ely who was keen to reduce the high electricity bills of the building. They had a good understanding of how solar photovoltaic (PV) works and asked if we could visit and provide a quote.
Upon visiting the building, Roly carried out a site survey which calculated that 48 panels could be installed on the south west facing roof producing approximately 10819 Kilowatt hours per annum. This would reduced their electricity bills by an estimated £1406 per year if they uses all the electricity generated.
Roly designed a solar pv system showing 3 sets of 4kW (16 panels). SunSolar black Monocrystalline panels were recommended as they are British made, utilise high quality components and techniques during the manufacturing process and come with an impressive 25 year warranty. We also recommended ABB inverters as they are very efficient, straightforward to fit and look neat when installed.
The members of the Masonic Hall were happy with the recommendations and approved the quote.
The installation needed to be completed before the end of September as the Feed-in Tariff was predicted to reduce by 10%. We changed a few jobs around to allow us to meet this deadline.
During the installation we made alterations to the electrics and also installed a solar iBoost (an immersion heater controller that uses excess generated electricity to heat water for free). The intelligent wireless system adjusts its power control with the varying building consumption ensuring only excess PV power is being diverted to heat the hot water.
The installation of the 48 solar panels and Solar iBoost took our team just three days to complete. We worked closely with Michael to arrange access to the building throughout the installation. Our professional team kept the site tidy and ensured there was minimal disruption enabling the hall to be used in the evenings.
Following the solar pv installation, the Masonic Hall were able to apply for the Feed-in Tariff (FiT), a tax-free payment paid to the registered owner of an MCS approved solar Photovoltaic (PV) installation for every kilowatt per hour generated.
This project was a wonderful opportunity for Eco Installer and we are delighted to have completed another large solar installation in our local town.
